About Us
Casey is from Austin, Texas, and Kate is from Alexandria, Virginia. We first met fourteen years ago in Washington, DC. We share a deep commitment to family and learning about the world around us. In 2002, we gathered friends and family to celebrate our wedding and the happiness of that day has continued for ten years of marriage. We moved to Santa Cruz in 2007 where Kate took a job at the local university. Our house is at the bottom of campus, so Kate usually bikes or walks to work. Casey is a research analyst at a non-profit educational research firm. Kate is a history professor who teaches American history. As a college teacher, she has the summers off and her school year schedule only requires a few days on campus each week, so she will be able to be at home with our child most days. We are eager to welcome a child into our lives.
About Casey by Kate
Casey is a wonderful husband and a loyal friend, and I know he will be an extraordinary father. Whether it’s sharing a good laugh or facing a disappointment, I always know being with Casey will make it better. His easy-going nature helps him manage even difficult situations with grace and generosity. Living with him has brought great joy to my life. He reminds me to have fun everyday in little ways and big ones. It is easy to imagine him teaching our child to throw a baseball and play guitar. I know he will be devoted to our child, helping him or her explore the world around them with confidence and love.
About Kate by Casey
Kate has an incredible ability to make people feel good about themselves, whether by her compassion and understanding, or just her great sense of humor. She is a great friend and an encouraging teacher. As an aunt, especially, Kate has a special talent for getting big laughs from all of our nieces and nephews. She loves spending time with her parents, her brother, and her nieces and nephews. At home, she is a great cook and looks forward to taking our child to the local farmers’ markets. Most of all, I know that Kate grew up in a family that believes strongly in generosity, kindness, and love. Those are the values that would make her a great mother.
Our Home
Our house is in a quiet neighborhood on the Univ. of California, Santa Cruz campus. It is perched in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking the Monterey Bay. We have access to beautiful hiking trails right out our backdoor, and a big playground one street over. The university community is very diverse and includes people from all over the world. There are lots of children in our neighborhood, and an elementary school a few blocks away. Santa Cruz has lots of great places to explore—tidal pools, sunny beaches, and tall redwood forests. It is a great place to be a kid, or an adult.
