Our backgrounds
We met and have been together since 1999 when Edgar moved to Minnesota from Canada and Mike returned to his home state after being overseas for several years. Our years together have been a wonderful time of sharing our lives, backgrounds, and careers. Edgar grew up in Guatemala and Mike is from Minnesota. Mike was raised Lutheran and Edgar was raised Catholic. Edgar is a chemistry professor and Mike is an engineer who works from home.
About Edgar
(Written by Mike) Edgar is compassionate, kind and thoughtful. His dedication to his family, as a teacher who cares for his students, and as a scientist who seeks improvements in medical science, has been inspirational to me. He works with a quiet intensity but also purely enjoys the excitement of playing with children. Edgar is the oldest of six children so there was plenty of babysitting from the very start. When we play with our nieces and nephews or babysit our friends’ children, that experience shows in the way that he makes their time together fun and meaningful. He can turn almost everything into a toy and is a pro at telling stories and inventing new games. With Edgar, our child will always have stories and games around. Edgar loves outdoors activities and he introduced me to back country camping and to long hiking trips. When our child gets older, Edgar will be buying our child’s first sleeping bag and sharing his/her first night in a tent!
About Mike
(Written by Edgar) Mike is a wonderful partner. He treats me with respect and is always supportive. He is always kind to everybody, very close to his family and keeps the contact with his distant Swedish and German relatives. Mike has an appreciation for other cultures, including my own. He has lived in Denmark, England, and Germany where he has worked as a construction engineer. Mike will be the one in charge of our child’s sandbox where he/she will build dams (with a garden hose nearby) and sand castles! He loves music and is great at playing the trumpet, which he plays at his church on some holidays. Mike will be the parent exposing our child to music and arts! He likes running marathons, cycling, swimming, yoga, and outdoor activities. Mike will teach our child how to ride a bicycle or paddle our canoe. I know that he will be a dedicated father and that he will always have a way to enrich every stage of our child’s life.
We are ready to be parents
We love children and are ready to pursue our dream of raising our child! As parents, we want our child to grow up happy, healthy, with many options to choose in life, so that he/she will be able to live life to the fullest potential. We want our child to learn to appreciate and respect others and discover his/her natural talents. In our bilingual home, our child will grow being part of two cultures and learning both English and Spanish. We want our child being able to speak with his/her “abuelitos” and grandparents. Our family life will be full of fun activities around the neighborhood like trips to the playgrounds and zoo, playing in the snow, and playing by the lake. We also want our child to see the world from an early age. We will share with our child our family values, admiration for the many cultures in the world, and our desire to make the world a better place.
