Independent Adoption Center Profiles Birthparents, Adoptive Parents, and Adopted Children: Bill and Tracy of Huntington Beach, California, Adopt Baby Julie

6 January 2006 – Los Angeles, CA. Each month, IAC– a nationally recognized nonprofit education and counseling agency – will present a profile of birthparents, adoptive parents, or children who have been adopted. A pioneer in open adoption, Independent Adoption Center (IAC) is nationally recognized as a leader in the field having facilitated almost 4,000 successful adoptions in 35 states. Headquartered in the Northern California town of Pleasant Hill, IAC has southern California offices in Los Angeles, and also operates centers in Indiana, North Carolina and Georgia.  IAC will celebrate its 25 anniversary in May 2007.

Bill and Tracy of  Huntington Beach have adopted two daughters. The first adoption was organized independently; the second adoption was through IAC. They adopted Julie in December 2005 when she was just three days old. Bill and Tracy have a wonderful relationship with birth mother Jennifer who lives with her family in California. Tracey said, “ Jennifer made our dreams come true, Julie was the most wonderful Christmas present.” The birthparents and adoptive parents truly consider each other as extended family
and celebrate holidays, birthdays and special occasions together.

Marcy Tajkef, Regional Director for the Los Angeles Independent Adoption Center said, “I am proud to be a part of the many lives that have been touched by open adoption. Bill and Tracy McQuaid are a wonderful resource for other waiting adoptive families.”

Ann Wrixon, Executive Director of the Independent Adoption Center and herself the mother of an
adopted child, said in response to a recent in-depth article on Open Adoption in the San Francisco Chronicle Magazine, “ It is wonderful to see media interest in open adoption. This is an important time to be exploring this issue as the first generation of adoptees in fully open adoptions reaches adulthood.”
