Independent Adoption Center Profiles Birthparents, Adoptive Parents, and Adopted Children: Jeff and Russ Adopt Baby Kennedy Grace 15 March, 2007 – Los Angeles, CA. Each month, IAC – a nationally recognized nonprofit education and counseling agency – will present a profile of birthparents, adoptive parents, or children who have been adopted. A pioneer in open adoption, Independent Adoption Center (IAC) is nationally recognized as a leader in the field having facilitated almost 4,000 successful adoptions in 35 states. Headquartered in the Northern California town of Pleasant Hill, IAC has southern California offices in Los Angeles, and also operates centers in Indiana, North Carolina and Georgia. Featured for the month of March from the Los Angeles branch office of IAC are adoptive parents Jeff and Russ. After working with IAC for several months in the spring of 2006, Russ and Jeff were matched with a birth mother, Stephanie in early October. They instantly liked each other and since Russ and Jeff live only 30 minutes distance from Stephanie they were able to spend a lot of quality time with her and her family and friends. Baby Kennedy Grace was born December 2, 2006. Russ said, “Kennedy is a beautiful gift from Stephanie to us. She knows that she is loved because, through open adoption, she has an extra huge family that loves and cares for her very, very much. We’ve made a covenant with Stephanie and her family to give Kennedy the best life possible.” “The folks at IAC are genuinely committed to our family,” said Russ. “Their help did not end with the paperwork and legalities – their counselors are still there for our peace of mind, and they will be there, should we need them, for the life of our child.” Marcy Tajkef, Regional Director for the Los Angeles Independent Adoption Center said, “Russ and Jeff are totally committed to open adoption. They feel very close to Stephanie and enjoy having her in their lives. Stephanie also has become very involved with IAC and will be the featured speaker at a coming weekend intensive.”
As a nonprofit organization, the IAC’s mission is to create open adoptions: that is, a completely voluntary adoption where birth parents select the family they want to adopt their child. It is a viable and accessible alternative to untimely pregnancy throughout the United States. IAC will celebrate its 25 anniversary in May 2007.
