I am a single 30 year old male and there are some issues going on with my sister and I am worried that the state might step in and take my niece away from her. With me being 30 and single is there still a chance that I would be able to adopt her if the state wanted to remove her from my sisters care?

There is no prohibition on single men adopting or fostering. In your case, you would need to let the social worker assigned to the case know that you are interested in caring for your niece. In general, the state prefers to place children with family members. If there are other family members who would like to care for your niece they would evaluate each of you to
determine the best placement.

The placement would require a home study to determine if your home is a safe emotional and physical space for your child, and includes a criminal background check.
