Do prospective birth mothers contact us directly through an 800 number? Or does the 800 number go to your agency?
The 800 numbers go to you. About 50 percent of prospective birthparents prefer to speak to families first before they call the agency. The other 50 percent will call the agency first.
IAC tries to set things up so that potential birthparents can make their own choice about what feels most comfortable for them. All our counseling is non-directive, meaning we only provide guidance in reaching a decision, and will help women find resources for any option they choose.
You will note that all the IAC families have a personal 800 number AND the agency 800 number on their letters and online profiles. As part of our educational program for adoptive parents, we coach you on how to respond to a call from birthparents.
