Can I adopt an older child? I am looking for 4-8 years old area.
There are many older children who need adoptive families. You would need to work with the Department of Children and Family Services in your state or with an agency that specializes in placing older children. Most of the older children who need adoptive families have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect and are in the foster care system. Agencies that specialize in these placements work with adoptive families so that they can provide the special care these children need.
The IAC only does voluntary newborn adoptions. Occasionally the agency will place a child who is older than newborn, but this is unusual. The IAC does not place children for adoption who are in the foster care system.
