We are currently paying off $24,000 in credit card debt due to a medical crises where my husband contracted pneumonia, consequently lost 35 lbs of muscle and had to learn how to walk again. He has fully recovered but we took a massive hit financially and it will take some time to recover financially. My husband is and always has been a skilled and solidly white-collared employed individual with an annual salary of $100K. Will our current financial status prevent us from adopting?
First, I am so sorry to hear about your husband's illness, but glad he has recovered.
There is no cut and dry answer about your finances. In general, $24K in credit card debt when your salary is $100K is not a problem. Usually, IAC also likes to see about three months of expenses in savings.
