Will a criminal background check that shows a non-violent offense and nothing to do with children in any way disqualify you automatically? Its only one and my spouse has had none.

There is no definitive answer to this question. Some non-violent offenses will keep you from adopting, especially if the offenses involve stealing or financial crimes. Nevertheless, there is no way to know if this is true without knowing what state you live and exactly what the offenses were and when they happened.

To check you should speak with an adoption agency or an adoption attorney and let them know the specifics of your situation.
